“There is hope for your future,” declares the Lord.

Call of the first disciples

This Sunday, our scripture focus will be John 1:29-42 and I Corinthians 1: 1-9.  John gives us a different account of Jesus’ baptism than what is told in the synoptic Gospels. What follows John’s account is interesting to us as well.  It is the call of the first disciples, and as is typical of John, the story seems simple and straight forward, but there are many layers. If Jesus were to look at you and ask the question, “What are you seeking?” how would you answer him?  Paul in his letter to the church in Corinth assures the people that God in Jesus Christ gives them everything they need in order to be the church and grow as disciples.
The morning begins with Confirmation Class at 9 AM and the Adult Forum and Choir rehearsal at 9:30 AM. Following the worship service this Sunday, the Confirmation Class will remain until 3 PM for an afternoon retreat, and the Deacons will hold their meeting in the pastor’s office.
We will also say farewell to a very dear member and friend this Sunday. Becky Elefante, a resident of Collington, who first came to Hope with her husband Michael when Kevin Knab was the pastor, will be moving to an assisted living facility in Rehoboth, Delaware. This move enables Becky to live closer to her daughter. During the worship service, we will hold a time of “sending” where we give Becky our prayers and blessings. Our fellowship time this Sunday will be to honor Becky. If you are so inclined, take a moment to write a note of farewell to Becky. She will enjoy reading them in the days to come. We will be providing her future address as soon as we receive it.
Until Sunday,
Pastor Dottie
